Ideas and inspiration for your Time for Tea event

You can host your Time for Tea event any time, anywhere...

We’ve listed just a few ideas below on how you can host your own Time for Tea event.

Choose your date and decide on your venue: 

  • Host your event in the comfort of your own home, and if it’s a sunny day, you could even take the event out into the garden!
  • Get your colleagues on-board and host your event at work
  • If you’re involved in any community groups, you could ask your group to get involved and have a dedicated Time for Tea event as one of your group sessions
  • Go to school or university? Ask your teachers to get involved, or if you’re at uni, have a Time for Tea social event.

Spread the word:

  • Set up a Facebook event, and invite your friends and family
  • Send out a fun email to all of your colleagues and share this page with your colleagues to give them recipe inspiration!
  • Go traditional and send out printed invites to your friends and family

Plan your event: 

  • Have a think if you would like to bake cakes for the event or buy some
  • You could host a cake sale and run competitions for the tastiest and most interesting cakes!
  • You might want to have a raffle or tombola
  • Have cake themed games – in our information pack, we have a guess the sprinkles game!
  • Choose a theme for your Time for Tea event, it could be – Alice in Wonderland, Teddy Bears’ Tea Party, or 1940s themed!
  • Sponsor your boss at work to make the brews for the day

Recipes: 

We’ve listed two tasty recipes below (tried and tested by us) that you could bake for your Time for Tea event, however, do feel free to use your own!

Blueberry cake 

Blueberry cake

Ingredients: 

  • 175g butter (at room
    temperature)
  • 175g caster sugar
  • 175g self-raising flour
  • 3 medium size eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 225g fresh blueberries
  • Zest of two lemons

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 180⁰C/Gas 4. Line a 20cm round tin with greaseproof paper on the bottom and sides.
2. Combine the flour, eggs, butter, sugar, baking powder and lemon zest in a mixing bowl and whisk with an electric mixer until well mixed.
3. Spread the blueberries out evenly onto the base of the cake tin.
4. Spoon on the cake mixture being careful to leave the berries on the base of the tin and not mix in.
5. Bake for 45 – 60 minutes or until you can insert a knife into the sponge and it come out clean.
6. Allow to cool in the tin and then turn out onto a cooling wire. Serve blueberry side up.

Chocolate Flapjacks

Ingredients:

  • 250g porridge oats
  • 150g butter
  • 75g syrup
  • 75g sugar
  • 200g milk or plain cooking
  • Chocolate

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to at 180oC/Gas 4.
2. Put butter, syrup and sugar in a pan and slowly melt on the hob. Remove from the heat, stir in the porridge oats.
3. Line a baking tray with parchment paper, place mixture in the tray and press flat.
4. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes depending on if you want soft or crispy flapjacks.
5. Remove from oven and cut into squares before it sets, then leave in the tin.
6. Melt the chocolate in a microwave for approximately 1 minute.
7. Pour over the flapjacks and place in the fridge.
8. Once set, turn tray upside down, remove parchment paper and use knife to remove flapjacks.
