Marguerite’s lasting legacy

Marguerite Christie left a gift in her will for St Ann's Hospice and describes just how easy the process was

St Ann’s Hospice has always been a big part of Marguerite Christie’s life, her mum was a volunteer for over three decades from when the hospice first opened in the early 1970s.

Marguerite has now made a lasting connection with St Ann’s by leaving a gift in her will to the hospice.

St Ann’s receives approximately a third of its funding from legacy and will gifts.

Speaking about leaving a gift in her will to St Ann’s, Marguerite said she was largely inspired to do so by her mother.

“My mum felt that she wanted to give something back to society, it’s what made her volunteer at St Ann’s in the first place, it’s what made her leave a gift in her will,” Marguerite said.

Because my mum left a gift in her will, I decided to do the same. The hospice really relies on donations, I’m not sure whether the general public are always aware of that. They rely on fundraising and donations, so I believe it's a really good cause to give to, you never know who in your life might need St Ann’s Marguerite Christie, St Ann's Legacy Supporter

Inspired by her mum, Marguerite also decided to volunteer at the hospice.

“About eight years ago, I had a dog who I trained as a therapy dog, and I started bringing him into St Ann’s visiting the patients. I was able to see first-hand just how important these donations are to the hospice and the people that access care here.”

According to Marguerite the process of leaving a gift in her will was simple. She got in touch with the St Ann’s Fundraising Team as she was making a will at the time. They recommended a number of solicitors.

“It just made the process so easy. I would truly encourage others to think about doing the same,” she said.

In Memory and Legacy Fundraiser, Heather Bennett said legacy and will gifts mean so much to St Ann’s Hospice.

“St Ann’s Hospice relies heavily on legacy donations and gifts in wills to continue providing the exceptional care it offers to the community. It’s a straightforward process that allows you to leave a lasting legacy with the hospice, ensuring that those who need it can continue to receive ongoing care. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us in the past and look forward to receiving any future gifts,” Heather said.
